This lesson is a combination of fingerpicking the melody and strumming the chords. You will need to be able to play the following 1- finger barre chords:
A power | D power | E power |
2nd fret | 7th fret | 9th fret |
I | IV | V |
Playing The Song On a Guitar Tuned To E B E or D A D
These chords and the TAB that follows are for a guitar tuned to G D G, but you could use the same TABS and fingering for a guitar tuned to E B E. In this case the song will be in F# rather than A.
If your guitar is tuned to D A D, the song will sound in E with these fingerings.
The Time Signature For No Particular Place To Go
This song has such a swing feel and so many triplets that I have written it out in 6/8 rather than 2/4 or 4/4 . Actually 12/8 might have been better, but I don’t think that’s very easy to read.
It’s my interpretation of the song and is not meant to be completely accurate to the original.
The Key Signature That Contains 3 Sharps
When you see a piece of music with 3 sharps ( F#, C# and G#) you will know that it is written in either A Major or F# minor. This song is definitely written in the key of A Major since it has a bright happy feel and uses the chords of A, D and E.
We will actually be using power chords in this lesson which are chords that only contain the 1st and 5th notes of the scale. Power chords can be played in place of both Major and minor chords since they do not contain the 3rd note of the scale. It is the 3rd note of the scale that determines whether a chord is Major or minor as it is flattened for the minor chord.
Melody In Manuscript Form, TAB And Chord Charts
Here is my beginner arrangement of the song and there will be an accompanying YouTube video coming soon. I offer it as a learning piece for personal use only:
